Net Zero Policy

Micron has started its Net Zero Journey.  We are currently in the process of gathering and analysing robust baseline data, building an ambitious yet practical and affordable decarbonisation strategy and assessing what NET ZERO means to us.

We have recently connected with Sheena Brockie who is a local environmental and sustainability consultant who will help us calculate our carbon emissions by helping us to work out our carbon footprint calculations.

We have also contacted Durrell about their Rewild Carbon Business Program which is an offset scheme.

What we are doing

Plastic Free – we encourage staff to reuse and recycle.  We have a water station in the office and staff use water bottles.

EV Chargers and Electric Vehicles – we have negotiated a discounted Micron rate with Jacksons and Motor Mall if a staff member/friend or family member make the step to go green.

Updating our business travel policy – we are encouraging our staff (when able and convenient) to walk, use the bus and van share.

Our work vans use RD100 which is Rubis’ 100% renewable diesel.  It is a clear and odourless fuel which is refined from 100% renewable sources such as vegetable oils from rapeseed, sunflower and soybean, and waste fats as animal fats or used cooking oil. Therefore creating 33% lower levels of fine particulates, 9% less nitrogen oxide, 30% less hydrocarbons, 24% lower carbon monoxide emissions and reduced levels of polyaromatic hydrocarbons.

Developing guidelines on carbon efficient homeworking practices.

Becoming paper free and when we can’t, we are using Woodland Trust printer paper which contributes to planting trees to catch carbon.

Implementing sustainable office practices such as turn off lights and unplugging devices when not in use, recycling, adjusting the thermostat

Plans for the future

Become net zero

Full fleet of electric vehicles

Upgrade the office – switching to LED and other energy-saving lightbulbs. Better windows to keep the hot and cold air in, getting a tune up for the heating/cooling systems to make sure they are operating at peak efficiency, buying energy saving machines that are Energy Star rated or looking into upgrading old equipment.

Keeping green a priority.
